About the Alliance

For over two decades, the Family Business Alliance has been the premier network for university-based family business programs across North America.

Our History

The Family Business Alliance was founded in 2003 as an informal association of university-based family business program directors. What began as a small gathering of like-minded academics has grown into a thriving network of over 50 centers spanning the United States and Canada.

From its earliest days, the Alliance recognized that family businesses represent the backbone of the North American economy. University-based centers play a critical role in supporting these enterprises through education, research, and community engagement. By connecting these centers, the Alliance amplifies their collective impact.

The Alliance maintains an active listserv that enables ongoing collaboration and knowledge sharing between annual meetings, ensuring that members stay connected throughout the year.
